First Edition, Publishers' Original Binding

All volumes are first editions, first impressions which is incredibly scarce. 

This is a fantastic work, which Churchill delivered at great speed following his electoral defeat. It was first published from 1923-1931 and is a staunch defence of his Gallipoli policy and a criticism of Haig's strategy.

Prior owner's inscription to the front pastedown of volume I - Stanley Johnson.. 1923 being the signature of Sir Louis Stanley Johnson, an English Solicitor and Conservative party politician. He was an MP for Hackney Council. 

Errata slip to the first volume, at page I. Errata to the recto of front endpaper of volume IV. 

Bookplate to the front pastedown of volume V, 'F A Beane'. 

Collated, complete. 

A very scarce first edition set of this important work regarding the First World War.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart. Bumping to the head and tail of spines. Evidence of library plate removal to the front board of volume III. Stamp to the recto of front endpaper to volume IV 'The British Broadcasting Corporation Library'. Prior owner's bookplate to the front pastedown of volume V 'F A Beane'. Inscription of one 'Stanley Johnson' to the front pastedown of volume I. Internally, all volumes are firmly bound. Scattered spotting to the first and last few pages. Pages are bright. Occasional light spots to pages.
