The first appearance of these tales under this title. Each of the tales in the collection had previously appeared in periodicals and other collected volumes.
Tales include 'The Flying Man', 'The Diamond Maker', 'The Hammerpond Park Burglary', 'The Jilting of Jane', 'The Stolen Bacillus', 'The Lord of the Dynamos', and others.
The personal copy of celebrated English science fiction author Brian Aldiss, best known for his 'Helliconia' trilogy.
Aldiss was greatly influenced by Wells's work, and was vice-president of the international group in Wells' honour, the H.G. Wells Society.
Loosely inserted is a provenance notice signed by the executor of Aldiss's estate, his daughter Wendy.
With a restaurant receipt loosely inserted.
Undated; dated 1923 via the University of Oxford Libraries.
With nine pages of advertisements to the rear.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail. Back strip age toned. Tide mark to rear board. Rubbing to joints. Head and centre of front joint starting, with board a touch tender. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages lightly age toned, with light spotting and instances of handling marks throughout.
