The first edition of this work. Ornithological study on rare and lost British birds by Linda Gardiner, compiled from notes by William Henry Hudson, Anglo-Argentine naturalist and ornithologist. Species include pelican, crane, white spoonbill, avocet, great bustard, and many others.
Signed presentation copy inscribed by Linda Gardiner to half title with best wishes.
Adorned with twenty-five beautiful full page coloured plates by H. Gronvold.
Prize binding awarded to C. C. Lack from the Gresham's School Halt for a public school essay competition of 1928, presented by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.
Condition
Rebound in full calf signed Bickers & Son with five raised bands, gilt tooling to spine, school gilt blind stamp to front board, renewed marbled endpapers. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear, cracking along front joint, boards firm. Prize bookplate to front pastedown. Inscribed and signed by author to half title. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean.
