Second edition. Highly illustrated throughout, compiled from photographs taken by representatives of "The Star". A pictorial review of the unprecedented events which led up to the Red Revolt on the Witwatersrand. During a period of economic depression following World War One, mining companies were faced with rising costs and a fall in the price of gold. In February 1922, negotiations with the South African Industrial Federation broke down when the Action Group seized control and set up barricades.
