Description

Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce

A very scarce work. This is the only recorded edition, though a limited edition was published concurrently with this.

An intriguing anthology of pieces written by various occult authors across history, here translated into French and edited into one volume by Emile-Jules Grillot de Givry.

Across twenty sections, Givry shows the historical occult beliefs from the world, and how the theories and studies have developed across the centuries.

The global sections focus on China, India, Persia, Egypt, Lebanon, the Phoenicians, Greece, Rome, and America, as well as Israelites . Givry also dedicates sections to religion, such as Christians and heretics, Judaism, the Alexandrian school, and the Arab school. Finally he dedicates sections to the centuries leading up to the 19th, from the 12th century with Artephius to his contemporary Alexandre Saint-Yves d'Alveydre.

Emile-Jules Grillot de Givry was a man of letters, occultist, and Freemason, known for his translations of alchemical work, most notably that of Paracelsus.
