First edition. Very scarce work. Illustrated with a frontispiece and seventy-one plates. Collated complete. A collection of the works of Alphonse Legros, a French, later British, painter, etcher, sculptor, and medallist who was important as a teacher in the British etching revival. From the collection of Frank Edward Bliss, an American art collector who is best known for his large collection of modern prints and famous collection of Legros' art. With an appreciation of the paintings and drawings by Charles de Sousy Ricketts, a British artist, illustrator, author and printer. As well as a preface to the etchings and lithographs from Campbell Dodgson, a British art historian and museum curator who was the Keeper of Prints and Drawings at the British Museum.
Condition
Bound in half crushed morocco with blue cloth binding with the original paper wraps bound in. Externally, smart with rubbing and the odd small mark to the boards. Light fading to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with light spotting to the endpapers.
