The second edition of this work, which was limited to five-hundred copies. 'Travels in Arabia Deserta' is a detailed and exciting travel work, documenting the author's travels in the Middle East, where he spent some time in the 1870s living with the Bedouins. This is the author's best known work. Volume I illustrated with a frontispiece, folding map to the pocket to the rear, five folding plates, three plates, and many in-text and full page illustrations. Volume II illustrated with many in-text and full page illustrations Written by Charles Montagu Doughty, an English poet and explorer. With a preface by T. E. Lawrence, the noted british explorer and archaeologist. Bookplate to the front pastedowns, 'A. C. Gloucester'.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally smart. Crack to the rear joint. Some bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities, with slight loss to the head of the spines. Minor marks to the boards and spines. Light fading to the spines. Some spots to the fore edge. Front hinges are starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with only the odd light spot. Generally a pleasing copy.
