First edition of The Lands of Silence A History of Arctic and Antarctic Exploration by Clements R. Markham rebound in modern cloth. 

Illustrated with fifty out of the fifty two monochrome plates and maps listed. The plates facing page 169 and 136 are missing. Collated.

This early history of polar exploration includes contents such as 'First English Voyages' and 'Discovery of the North Coast of America'. 

Clements Markham was an English geographer and writer. He helped organise the British National Antarctic Expedition of 1901-1904. 

This was a library book, with library sorting code to the spine, and stamps to the front pastedown and title page.

Condition

Rebound in green cloth. Externally, very smart. There is some minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. This was a library book, with library sorting code to the spine, and stamps to the front pastedown and title page. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean with some slight age toning.
