This is an illustrative account of all manner of musical instruments from all over the world, including those from Japan, Africa and India, as well as classical and medieval Western instruments.

Penned by A. J Hipkins (1826-1903), an English musicologist and musician whose career began as a piano tuner at the age of fourteen. He also wrote the works 'The old clavier of keyboard instruments; their use by composers and technique' and 'Description and history of the pianoforte and of the older keyboard stringed instruments'.

Profusely illustrated with forty-eight colour plates by William Gibb.

Condition

In the publisher's original full cloth binding. Externally very smart, minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine with some wear to extremities. Ownership inscription to the front pastedown. Internally firmly bound, pages bright and clean.
