The first edition, first printing, with printer's code 'K-V' to the colophon.
Following the First World War, Americans James Hall and Charles Nordhoff together toured the South Pacific, describing in detail life in French Polynesia in the late 1910s.
Illustrated with a frontispiece and twenty-nine further plates by George A. Picken. Collated, complete.
With the inscription of H Shady to the front free endpaper.
The first of many collaborations between Nordhoff and Hall.
Condition
In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail. Front joint starting, with board firmly held. Rear hinge strained, but firmly held. Inscription to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright, with instances of foxing to the first few leaves.
