Illustrated with a frontispiece, an engraved title page, seven colour plates, and a range of in-text illustrations.

This is a wonderful collection of children’s short stories published by H. W. Pike in 1920. These stories are set in India and deal with a range of fables involving princes, children, and animals. They are taken from an old Indian classic called ‘Hitopadesha’ which tells moral maxims through charming stories.

Contents include ‘Friendship: The Story of a Crow, a Mouse, a Tortoise and a Deer’ and ‘Treachery: The Story of a Bull, a Lion, and a Pair of Jackals.

Undated, so dated off of Jisc from an identical copy held at the British Library.

With a prize bookplate to the front pastedown, awarded to Ruth M. Brook for ‘Excellence in Painting’ at the Young Folks’ Magazine of the Baptist Missionary Society in 1922.
