Description

Author's Presentation Copy, First Edition, Folding Plates, Illustrated, Limited Edition, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding, Scarce, Signed

First edition, in the publisher's original red cloth binding.

A Limited Edition of only three hundred copies, of which this is number nineteen.

Inscribed by the author, gifting the book to Mrs Ingeborg Bell, a relation of the author, 'with the Editor's kind regards, Charles S. Romanes', dated 'Edinburgh 21st April 1920'.

This work depicts the family history of the Calls, an old English family who have taken part in many political and ecclesiastical struggles in Britain over the decades. With reference to their Paston connections and their various descendants. Written by Charles. S. Romanes, a descendant of the family, and privately printed for the editor.

With thirty-nine plates and a folding genealogical table to the rear, in a separate pocket. Collated, complete.

With additional interesting material regarding the Call family loosely inserted, including three additional handwritten genealogical tables and photographs of the family.

Condition

In the publisher's original red cloth binding. Externally, smart, with light bumping to the extremities and to the spine. A touch of fading to the extremities and spine, and the odd mark. Hinges are very slightly strained, but holding firm. Ink inscription to front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean, with the odd annotation. The occasional spot, moreso to the first and last pages. Folding table is very good, with the odd closed tear and ink annotation.
