From the library of Eric Kenneth Prentice Back, with his bookplate to the verso to the front endpaper. Kenn Back was a British meteorologist with the British Antarctic survey for many years. He spent eight winters in the Antarctic and is a descendent of Captain George Back. In addition, he served as base commander at Halley, Faraday and Rothera stations. His library collection was built over decades and highlights his love of polar exploration.

Condition

Rebacked, with the original publisher's cloth spine and board restored, restoring the front pastedown and front endpaper, with a new rear pastedown and rear endpaper. Externally, smart, Minor rubbing and marks to the boards and spine. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Bookplate to the verso to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with some odd handling marks. Plate facing page 80 is a little edgeworn. The occasional pencil annotation to the text.
