Formed in 1819, the Sheffield Savings Bank was started by twenty local gentlemen, amongst them Scottish-born poet James Montgomery, who sat as Chairman from its opening until his death thirty years later. In 1944, the bank was twelfth nationally by the size of funds; it later merged with TSB Yorkshire and Lincoln.
Written by Robert Eadon Leader (1839-1922), a journalist and historian known for his works regarding Sheffield and its vicinity. His other works include 'Reminiscences of Old Sheffield; its Streets and its People' and 'Sheffield in the Eighteenth Century'.
A first edition of this work.
Illustrated with nine plates. Collated, complete.
Condition
In the publisher's original full cloth binding. Externally very smart, with just some slight minor wear to the head and tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
