The first edition, in a scarce variant binding. With the expected collation and printers code for the first edition. This work was first published serially in 'The Quiver' between 1918 and 1919. 

Illustrated with two leaves of monochrome star charts. Collated complete. 

This work was written by H. Rider Haggard, a pioneer for the 'lost world' genre, to which this novel is a great example. This work concerns the adventures of Bastin, Bickley, and Arbuthnot as they travel to the South Sea island of Orofena.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth variant binding. Externally very smart with fading to the spine, a very slight lean, bumping to the extremities, slight rubbing and wear to the head and tail of the spine and joints and minor handling marks. Offsetting to the free endpapers with bookseller's stamps to. Internally firmly bound with very lightly age toned pages with the odd minor spot and bookseller's stamps to the odd page.
