A fantastic fourteen volume set of works from the series 'Michelin Illustrated Guides to the Battlefields (1914-1918)'. This series covers in detail many of the major battles of the First World War, discussing in detail the progress of these battles, and their origins and conduct.

Published by Michelin 'in memory of the Michelin employees and workmen who died gloriously for their country'.

Each volume is illustrated with maps and photographic images.

Present here are:

Volumes I, II and III of 'The Americans in the Great War', covering the battles of Sains Mihiel, Marne, and the Meuse-Argonne Battle. Illustrated throughout with vignette photographs.

Volumes I and II of 'The Somme', with volume I: The First Battle of the Somme, in the original cloth and volume II: The Second Battle of the Somme in the original paper covered boards. Illustrated throughout with vignette photographic images.

'Amiens: Before and During the War', in the original unclipped dust wrapper, illustrated throughout.

'The Yser and the Belgian Coast' in the original unclipped dust wrapper, illustrated throughout.

'Lille: Before and During the War', in the original unclipped dust wrapper, illustrated throughout. Lacking the title page.

'Arras and the Battle of Artois', in the original unclipped dust wrapper, illustrated throughout.

Condition

In the publisher's original bindings, with one volume in the original paper covered boards, and thirteen in the original cloth covered boards. Eleven volumes in the publisher's original unclipped dust wrappers. Bumping to back strip heads and tails. America vol I dust wrapper adhered to binding. Tide marks to tail of America vol I rear wrap, with loss of paper to back strip head. Tide mark to tail of Soisson rear wrap and back strip. Loss to head of Somme vol II back strip head. Dust wrappers age toned to back strips and wrap perimeters. Tape repairs to Ypres back strip, with hinges strained but firmly held. Somme hinges strained but firmly held. Marne hinges strained, and somewhat tender. Internally, generally firmly bound, but with Lille text block detached and loosely inserted, and lacking the title page. Pages bright and generally clean, with only the odd handling marks.
