A charming book about the Northumberland town of Hexham and its abbey. Written by Charles Clement Hodges and John Gibson. This book covers the ancient history, ecclesiastical, and civil history of Hexham, as well as in-depth descriptions of the Hexham Abbey (the crypt, transepts, nave, interior, and exterior). This book is bound in the publisher's original decorative cloth binding. It also contains forty-six illustrations and a frontispiece depicting Hexham in 1815, in colour and protected by an intact tissue guard. Also including a folding plate of the abbey. This copy also contains the previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown: 'Ex Libris Michael Bryant'.

Condition

Bound in the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart with minor shelf wear and fading to the spine. Previous owner's bookplate in the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean.
