The Library of S R Christie Miller belonged to Samuel Christie-Miller, an English businessman and politician who inherited the library from William Henry Miller in 1852. William Henry Miller was a Scottish book collector and parliamentarian who, as a book collector, was regarded as the successor of Richard Heber and who even obtained much of Heber's library for his own collection. The Britwell Library, as Miller's collection came to be known, was noted for the number, rarity and condition of its examples of early English and Scottish literature. It contained six works from William Caxton's press and the greater part of the Heber collection of ballads and broadsides. Also containing part of the library of Jacques August de Thou, a French historian and book collector.
