Description
Folding Maps, Illustrated, Original Binding
The first volume is the second in the overall series, and was written in accordance with the requirements of the Tinline Scholarship at the University of Adelaide. This was set up to finance original historical work. It includes both the text and 10 fold-out colour maps derived from explorers up to 1856. The second work, 1856-1880 is split into two volumes, one for the text and one with 20 fold-out maps. South Australia was originally explored at a time of global high tension; British and French expeditions met at encounter bay, even though both countries were at war at the time. In the 1830s the land was settled by free men rather than convicts, and this was the beginning of the territory's unique role in Australian history. Collated: complete
Condition
Rebound in cloth, with the original card covers bound in. Externally excellent . Internally, the half titles of the first two volumes are a little cockled. Mildly age toned, otherwise generally clean. Firmly bound.
