First edition. A copy of the speech made by Walter Hines Page, an American journalist, publisher, and diplomat, as the United States ambassador to Great Britain during World War I. The speech was delivered at Plymouth on August 4th, 1917. With commentary on the best by-product of war, the testing of the Republic, soldiers as the guardians of civilization, fellowship in war, and a heroic mood.

Condition

In the original paper wraps. Externally, smart with light wear to the extremities and a small contemporary ink inscription to the front board dated 1918. Minor discolouration to the rear board. Small splits in the paper to the head and tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout.
