A detailed account of the Rothamsted agricultural experiments, including the experiments on oats, crops grown in rotation and nitrification. With a biographical introduction of John Bennet Lawes and Joseph Henry Gilbert, the early scientists of the Rothamsted Experimental Station. Lawes and Gilbert were highly successful in their field, and are largely recognised as the founders of modern scientific agriculture. Rothamsted Experimental Station, now known as Rothamsted Research, is one of the oldest agricultural research institutions in the world. It is located in Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom. With four pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear of the book. The half title page is present. With a bookplate for one, 'Peter M. Scott', to the front paste-down.

Rebound in contemporary half morocco. Externally, excellent with little shelf wear. Bookplate to the front paste-down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with some scattered handling marks throughout. Age-toning to the page edges. Some marks to the plate on page xxxii.
