First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding, With Dustwrapper

Scarce in the original unclipped dustwrapper.

With 20 leaves of illustrated plates. Collated, complete.

The illustrations are reproductions of prints and drawings from engraver and photographer Sir Emery Walker, a friend of William Morris and a man active in the Arts and Crafts movement.

Covering the period between the dissolution of the monasteries and the Great Fire of London, author Wilberforce Jenkinson chronicles the history of London Churches. Combining descriptions from sixteenth and seventeenth century literature with parish records and state papers, Jenkinson covers, amongst others, Westminster Abbey and the old St Paul's.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding with unclipped dustwrapper. Externally bright, with only minor bumping to head and tail of spine. Endpapers age toned due to paper type. Discolouration to dustwrapper, most concentrated at spine panel. Some small closed tears, small loss to head of spine panel. Small tear to spine panel, patched with tape to reverse. Tape reinforcement to head and tail of dustwrapper to the reverse. Internally, firmly bound. Some pages unopened to the fore edge throughout. Pages are bright and clean.
