A later printing of the of the original 1857 International Signal Book, which at the time failed to meet the requirements of the Mercantile Marine. This volume comprises a more updated copy of the international system of signals and codes for use by vessels to communicate important messages concerning the safety of navigation and related matters. The original revised edition appeared in 1899.
Structured in two parts: Part I with instructions on how to signal, including how to make alphabetical spelling signals and numeral signals, and Part II on distant signals, including the fixed semaphore for coast use.
Illustrated with fourteen leaves of coloured flags, as well as numerous other illustrations in text. With numerous leaves of advertisements.
Condition
In the original publisher's quarter morocco binding over cloth covered boards. Externally sound with some shelf wear and general soiling to the boards. Some rubbing to the spine, a minor loss to the head and tail of the spine and minor chipping. Internally, firmly bound. With some age toning to the protruding marginal title indexes, as usual, otherwise the pages are generally bright and clean throughout. Illustrated with fourteen leaves of coloured flags, as well as numerous other illustrations in text. With numerous leaves of advertisements.
