The very scarce first edition of this study of the religious history of ancient Egypt, 'reviewed in light of the science of modern mythology', with chapters dedicated to the cult of Osiris, Egyptian literature, magic, and the animal gods of the late period.

The work of Scottish folklorist and occult scholar Lewis Spence, a Fellow of the Royal Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland, and vice-president of the Scottish Anthropological and Folklore Society.
