What Our Customers Say...

Description

Limited Edition, Publishers' Original Binding

A satirical play addressed specifically to John Dryden and the pretentious theatre of the Restoration tragedy.

First staged in 1671, The Rehearsal satirised Dryden by using his own words out of context, exposing their innate absurdity; this angered Dryden, who made Villiers into the Zimri in his Absalom and Achitophel

Facsimile edition published in a limited edition of five-hundred and ten copies, the present number two-hundred and nineteen. Illustrated with a frontispiece.

Condition

In the original publisher's quarter cloth binding over paper covered boards. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear only, spine and boards lightly bumped to extremities. Previous ownership inscription to front pastedown, dated 1945. Internally, firmly bound. Light minor spotting scattered to the leaves, although generally pages appear bright and clean. Illustrated with a frontispiece.
