An incredibly scarce work, with only fifty copies printed. Includes a facsimile of John Evelyn's letter addressed to Mrs. Evelyn. John Evelyn was a writer and diarist, whose memoirs offer an interest insight into the art culture and politics of the time. The particular letters included in the volume were written from between 1665 to 1703. Prefaced by Frances Evelyn Rowley Heygate, (the great granddaughter of John Evelyn) who found these letter amongst the possessions of her maternal grandmother. With a ink inscription to the verso of the title page, dated 1914.
Condition
In a full cloth binding. Externally smart, with some age toning and rubbing. Light bumping to the head and tail of the spine, and also to the extremities. Rubbing to the spine, resulting in a small amount of loss to the spine label. The odd spot to the front and rear board. Light foxing to the front and rear endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally clean.
