Lyne, Director of Agriculture at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Peradeniya, the other is signed by the author to the previous owner, dated 5th February 1916. Illustrated with many images throughout. A detailed and comprehensive guidebook for the management and cultivation of a tropical garden, with chapters on climate, soil, tropical fruits, flowering plants, spices, bamboos, orchids, shrubs, annuals, and more. Includes special reference to Ceylon, now Sri Lanka. Written by Hugh Fraser Macmillan, a British botanist and writer who was a student gardener at the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew from 1893 to 1895. Previously held in the library of Robert Davidson, a British botanist at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. Advertisements to the rear.
Condition
In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Minor fading to the spine with the odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Minor age toning to the endpapers with a contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown.
