Folding Plates, Illustrated, Leather Binding

A exploration of the solar system and planetary systems. Illustrated throughout, with a large folding plate to the front of the volume. With several plates featuring images of planet and the solar system. Sir Robert S. Ball was a Irish astronomer, who is best known for his work founding screw theory. Ball was well-known for his popular lectures on science, performing thousands of lectures across the United Kingdom. Two ink inscriptions to the front blank that read 'With love from Dad to Jack, Christmas 1917' and then 'Herbert, Affectionately from Jack. Christmas 1977. "All things praise thee Lord most high Heaven and earth and sea and sky..."'.

Condition

In a full morocco binding. Externally, smart. Light rubbing to the head and tail of the spine, to the joint and extremities. The odd scratch and mark to the front and rear board, and also to the spine. Very light offsetting to the extremities of the front and rear endpaper and pastedowns. Ink inscription to the front blank. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally clean with the odd mark. Large closed tear to the folding map, with tape repairs.
