Description

Colour Plates, First Edition, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

First edition of Russia in the original publisher's cloth binding.

Painted by Frederic de Haenen, and with text by G. Dobson, H. M. Grove, and H. Stewart.

An insightful look at the history of Russia and a contemporary travel guide, with topics including 'St. Petersburg, first impression' and 'life in Moscow'.

Frederic de Haenen was a nineteenth century and early twentieth century French painter and illustrator.

Illustrated with forty eight colour plates, forty eight monochrome plates, and a folding map to the rear. The plate facing page 160 (in colour) is working loose, and the plates facing pages 270 and 174 (monochrome) are present but detached. Collated, complete.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. There is some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Slight damp staining to the boards. Internally, generally firmly bound. A few of the plates working loose or detached. The pages are bright and clean with the odd spot.
