Description

Colour Plates, Folding Maps, Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

An early twentieth century illustrated edition of this major work from Charles Darwin, based upon the first Murray illustrated edition of 1890, and featuring the illustrations of Robert Taylor Pritchett.

First published in 1839 as his 'Journal and Remarks', and most commonly given the title 'The Voyage of the Beagle', Charles Darwin's recounts his role in the second survey expedition of the H.M.S Beagle, under Captain Robert FitzRoy, a fellow scientist.

Featuring numerous vignette illustrations, two folding colour maps, and ten illustrated plates. Collated, complete.

This work documents his experiences, and scientific researches into biology, geology, and anthropology, demonstrating hints at Darwin's changing views of species, and provides the basis for the development of his theories of evolution through natural selection.
