This work contains chapters on small fry, American trout fishing, salmon flies, the perch and perch-fishing, fishing in the East, the pollack, coalfish and sea bream, and sharks, dogfish and skate, amongst numerous other kinds of fishing and fishing aids.
Written and compiled by Sir Herbert Eustace Maxwell (1845-1937), a Scottish novelist, antiquarian and angler. His other works include 'Scottish Land Names', 'British Fresh-Water Fish' and 'The Making of Scotland', as well as numerous biographies and four novels.
Seven hundred and fifty copies of this work were printed, this being No. 35. Royal Quarto.
Containing seven plates in colour, five monochrome plates, five photogravure plates and forty-three half-tone plates. Collated, complete.
With a gift inscription stating 'With every good wish to Walter, from Cecil, Easter April 24/43.'
Illustrated with a frontispiece of King George V.
Condition
In the publisher's original full crushed morocco; rebacked. Externally generally smart, with a little wear to the boards and bumping to the extremities. Gift inscription to the half title page. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
