Very scarce. A limited edition copy, number 14 of 100. Signed by the artist Frank Brangwyn. With an introduction by S. L. Bensusan. Besusan was a author and playwright in his own right, who worked on numerous publications. Written by Alexander William Kinglake, the travel writer and historian. Well educated at Eton College and Cambridge University, Kinglake's first literary work was 'Eothen; or Traces of travel brought home from the East' which documented his travels though Syria, Palestine and Egypt. Collated, complete. With 12 coloured plates throughout.
In a quarter vellum binding, with cloth covered boards, and rough cut pages. Externally, generally smart. Rubbing to the spine, joints, boards and extremities. Bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. Scratch marks to the rear board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally clean, with occasional offsetting, caused by ribbon book mark. Offsetting also to the rear of the volume caused by a newspaper clipping, loosely inserted into the volume.
