First edition. Very scarce work. A bronze medallion that displays Charles Dickens to the front, with the words "To A Blithe Spirit - The F of The M" and Bob Cratchit and Tiny Tim to the reverse with the words "God Bless Us All Ev'ry One". Produced by Circle of Friends of the Medallion, a group that issued a total of twelve medals from 1909 to 1915, this being the sixth. Commissioned to the Medallic Art Company, it is estimated that "no more than 500 of any" medal in the series and each was produced and then presented in tan cloth. This medal was designed and produced to mark the one hundredth anniversary of the birth of Charles Dickens, an English novelist, journalist, short story writer and social critic who created some of literature's best-known fictional characters, and is regarded by many as the greatest novelist of the Victorian era. With a detailed description of the medal, its artists, and the author himself. Designed by John S. Conway, an American artist and sculptor.
Condition
In the original tan cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing resulting in minor loss to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. The medallion is held in card and is in fine condition. Pages are very bright with light spotting and age toning. The odd small mark. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown.
