    The 'Shown' edition from the 'Shown to the Children' series, edited by Louey Chisholm. 

    Illustrated with a coloured frontispiece and forty-eight coloured plates to 'Sea-Shore', a monochrome frontispiece, vignettes and forty-four monochrome plates to 'Architecture', a colour frontispiece, vignettes and forty-eight monochrome plates to 'Ships and Sea-Faring', and a coloured frontispiece and thirty-eight plates, both in colour and monochrome, to 'Bees'. Collated complete. 

    A four volume set. 

    This set features a collection of works from Nelson's 'Shown' series which aimed to cover a range of interesting topics and educate young people, with many beautiful illustrations throughout. This collection includes; 'Bees', 'Ships and Sea-Faring', 'Architecture' and 'The Sea-Shore'. 

    In the publisher's original cloths with plates to the front boards.

    Undated, dated by copies held institutionally.

    Condition

    In the publisher's original cloth, lacking original dust wrappers. Externally excellent to 'Sea-shore' with only slight shelf wear, and very smart to the rest with slight bumping and minimal rubbing to the extremities, the odd very minor mark to the boards, and a tidemark to the plate to the front board to 'Bees'. Offsetting and a past owner's ink signature to the front free pastedowns. Internally generally firmly bound with plate xxx disbound but present to 'Bees', minimal age toning and the odd spot.
