Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding

Two volumes of collected poems and short stories focusing on two topics, with 'Holidays and Travel' to one volume, and 'Matrimony and Courtship' to another. Ten volumes of this 'Fun Library' were published in total. These volumes are volumes I and IV in the set. Including 'Sketches at Brighton', 'An Incident at the Seaside', 'The Landlady of france', 'A Day at a Custom House', 'Daughters to Pell', 'Coquette and Prude', 'A Sprig of Lavender', 'The Shadow Kiss', 'Matrimonial Dictionary', and more. Illustrated with numerous in-text illustrations throughout, with coloured frontispieces and coloured title pages to each volume. Some of the illustrators featured are George Cruikshank, Phiz, Arthur Watts, John Leech, and Charles Keene. Complied by John Alexander Hammerton. Hammerton focused his literary career on reference works, working on Arthur Mee's 'Children's Encyclopedia' and 'Harmsworth's Universal Encyclopedia'. Undated, dated from Copac from copies held at the British Library.

Condition

In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, smart. Light marking and rubbing to the boards, with minor fading to the spine. Light bumping to the head and tail of spine and extremities. Front hinge of 'Courtship and Matrimony' starting but firm close to the textblock. Internally, generally firmly bound, though lightly strained in places. Pages are bright and clean.
