A brightly illustrated edition of this classic work on fox hunting, first published in 1781.

This work contains a collection of letters from renowned landowner huntsman Sir Peter Beckford regarding matters in relations to fox hunting, forming an instructional and informative guide to the reader.

Illustrated with twenty five tipped in colour plates, including frontispiece, from British painter and illustrator George Denholm Armour, whose work regularly depicted horses, riding, and country life. Collated, complete.

Containing the ink signature of a previous owner to the front free-endpaper: 'Bertrand Harver, 1911'. 

This copy came from the library at Julians Park, Hertfordshire, the previous home of Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie (1902-1968). She was an English socialite and through her mother was the illegitimate granddaughter of King Edward VII.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding with gilt stamping to the front board and spine. Externally, bright, with some shelf wear. A tear in the cloth to the front board. Spine has faded slightly. Previous owner's ink signature to the front free-endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean.
