The first edition of this work.

An extensive history of the Regiment from its rising in the late seventeenth century through to its first battalion in the early twentieth century. With details on Marlborough's campaigns as well as the Siege of Gibraltar, the first war with China, and the war in Crimea among others. 

Written by Lieutenant-Colonel G. le M. Gretton of the late 3rd Battalion, Leicestershire Regiment.

Illustrated with a frontispiece and two further plates as well as a double page lithographic reproduction of Lord Wolseley's letters and ten folding maps. Collated, complete.

Condition

Rebound in smart full cloth with titles in gilt to spine, renewed endpapers. Externally lovely. Tape repair to horizontal closed tear to p. 13. Internally, firmly bound. Light minor spotting to first and last few leaves, pages otherwise bright and clean.
