A signed, early edition of this children's novel from American educator and author Kate Douglas Wiggin. Published in the same year as the first edition.

With the inscription to the front free endpaper: 'W. B. P, K. D. W. I am so pleased, & so honoured that you like this book. May I give it to you honoured! Kate Douglas Wiggin, December 1914'.

Illustrated with a frontispiece, and with a blind stamp to front free endpaper. With four pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear.

Wiggin's charming and popular tale tells the story of a poor but happy family of four children who, in spite of being fatherless, make the lives of others better. Their lives are thrown into chaos when their snobbish cousin comes to stay.

Condition

In the publisher's original pictorial cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail, with discolouration to back strip. Front hinge strained, with board slightly tender. Author's inscription to front free endpaper. Blind stamp to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
