What Our Customers Say...

Description

Author's Presentation Copy, First Edition, Illustrated, Leather Binding, Local Imprint

Themselves a history of the British Empire, the medals described in this thorough work are predominantly from the collection of the author, and include those given by both British and foreign orders to worthy men of the army and naval forces. What originally begun as a simple catalogue of A.A. Payne's collection eventually expanded into this comprehensive volume, becoming both a passion and a life's work written in spare moments, the story behind the book itself is as much a fascination as the stories of those who won the medals within. With a library plate of Lord Cheylesmore to the front paste-down, and dedicated to him with the author's compliments to the dedication page. Lord Cheylesmore (H.E. Eaton) presided over several courts-martial during World War One, including that of German spy Carl Hans Lody. With 58 monochrome photographic plates, collated complete. A painstakingly thoroughly researched guide to the medals won by British forces, A.A. Payne's work is unprecedented in this collection.
