Thomas Hardy was a prolific author at the end of the nineteenth century and beginning of the twentieth century. He was inspired by Victorian realism and Romanticism. Most of his novels, including most of those included in this set, are set in the semi-fictional region of Wessex. His novels deal with tragic characters, dealing with passions and social circumstances, which often stand against each other.
