Henry Huth was an English merchant banker and prominent bibliophile. After travelling through Europe and the America's, Huth joined his father's company and settled in London where he began forming his library. Huth confined himself to no particular subject, but bought anything of real interest provided that the book was in good condition. His varied collection was especially rich in voyages, Shakespearean and early English Literature, and also in early Spanish and German works, influenced by his time in Hamburg. Huth was a member of various clubs and societies for which he printed, in limited editions, various rare works taken from his collection of manuscripts. in 1861 he caused the be translated into Spanish parts of Henry Thomas Buckle's History of Civilisation for the author. Approximately ten years before his death he commissioned a catalogue of his library, which was completed two years after his death in 1880.
