What Our Customers Say...

Description

This piece was extracted from the Contemporary Review for August 1909, with a preface and summary added.

Written by Herbert Stanley Jevons (1875-1955), the son of William Stanley Jevons. He held the role of professor of economics and political science at the University of South Wales, and also created the Indian Journal of Economics.

From the Wigan Free Public Library. Donated to the library by Sir Francis Sharp Powell, 1st Baronet (1827-1911), an English politician who sat in the House of Commons for nearly five decades. He was an important figure to Wigan, and a statue was erected in his honour in 1910; his left foot protrudes from the base of the statue, and local superstition holds that rubbing it brings good luck. This is held in such firm belief that while the rest of the statue turned green from lack of care, the foot was so regularly rubbed by those wishing for luck that it never discoloured.

Condition

In the publisher's original paper wraps. Both wraps are loose but present. Binding is otherwise firm and pages are bright and clean, if a little edge-worn.
