The first edition. 

Illustrated with a monochrome frontispiece, seven plates and illustrations to the endpapers. Collated, lacking plate to pp. 57. 

A vanishingly scarce work. 

This work was written by Mrs C. R. Peers and features a collection of stories about the saints, such as; 'St. Jerome and the Lion', 'St Francis and the Soldan', and 'St George and the Dragon'. The stories are beautifully illustrated from pictures by Carpaccio, Giotto, and Sassetta, and from illuminated manuscripts. 

In the publisher's original cloth with a plate to front board. 

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth. Externally smart with bumping and rubbing to the extremities, minimal loss to the cloth to the head of the spine, and the odd minor mark to the boards. Front hinge tender. Internally, binding starting in places with one plate disbound but present. Lacking one plate. Pages lightly age toned with spotting throughout.
