An extensive work by James Touzeau, exploring the rise, progress, and development of Liverpool from 1551 to 1835; all material obtained from the Books of Records in the possession of the Corporation, supplemented by additional items of information taken from such historical works and other authentic documents, comprising explanatory, interesting, and reliable details. 

The scarce first edition, published in 1910 by permission of the Finance Committee of the Council of Liverpool. 

This copy was bound from the original parts with the front wrappers from eight of the parts bound in. In an attractive modern half calf binding. Complete in six sections, from 1551 to 1835.

Each of the six sections or chapters has its own separately paginated index. With a half-title, preface, and introduction. 

Illustrated with a frontispiece and nine full page sepia plates, as well as a plan of Lancaster Castle.

Condition

In a modern half calf binding with the original front wraps of eight of the parts used as endpapers. Externally lovely with only minor shelf wear and minor markings to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. The pages are bright and clean, some unopened to vol. II. Illustrated with a frontispiece and nine full page sepia plates, as well as a plan of Lancaster Castle. Lacking two full page plates.
