First edition. Scarce work. Illustrated with thirty-two tipped in colour plates with thirty-two smaller illustrations in black-and-white. Collated complete. A collection of images of the people of India, including: a Rajput of Rajgarh, a Kashmir Pundat, a Sikh Warrior, a Horseman from Bombay, a Tailor, Hindu women, a Native Bride, Nautch Girls, and many others. Illustrated by Mortimer Luddington Menpes, an Australian-born British painter, author, printmaker and illustrator. With an introduction by Geraldine Edith Mitton, an English novelist, biographer, editor, and guide-book writer.

Condition

In the original cloth binding. Externally, very smart with light shelf wear only. Internally, firmly bound with frontispiece loosening. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd small spot. Light age toning and small marks to the endpapers.
