Description

Illustrated, Leather Binding

Illustrated, with a coloured frontispiece to all novels and therefore six frontispieces total. The coloured frontispieces are by C E Brock, the widely published English painter, line artist and book illustrator. 

Comprising of:

I: Sense and Sensibility
II: Pride and Prejudice
III: Mansfield Park
IV: Emma
V: Northanger Abbey and Persuasion 

Robert Riviere was an English Bookbinder known for his attractive decorative bindings and high quality. This set was issued by Riviere which is unusual.

Scarce to have all five volumes of this edition together.

Undated, dated using Worldcat.

Condition

In half calf bindings, with cloth covered boards. Externally, generally smart. Light rubbing to the joints. Small oss to the leather at the head and tail of spine to Sense and Sensibility, and Mansfield Park. Small loss at the tail of spine to 'Pride and Prejudice'. All volumes are firmly bound. Page 22 is unopened at the bottom edge to Northanger Abbey & Persuasion. Pages are very bright with just the odd spots to fore-edges.
