Description

Colour Plates, First Edition

The first edition, first impression (with the unpublished 'Trepanned' by John Masefield to the advertisements) of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding. Illustrations to the paste downs and end papers. An article about this novel is loosely inserted to the front of the volume. With a colour frontispiece. The History of Mr. Polly is a comic novel by H. G. Wells (1866-1946). The protagonist is an antihero inspired by Wells's early experiences in the drapery trade, who - despite his own timidity and confusion - achieves contentment with the help of those around him. 10 pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally smart, with a few faint marks to the front board, and some losses to the spine label, not affecting the text. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with some spotting to the first and last few pages, and to the fore edge, affecting the occasional page.
