The uncommon first cheap edition of this work, published as part of Hodder and Stoughton's 'Sixpenny Novels' series.
There were only twenty thousand copies of this edition printed, of which eighty percent were sold in Britain, and the other twenty percent were sold overseas. Before the trip Churchill agreed to profit from his travels, serialising articles in the Strand Magazine, and then publishing a bound expanded edition in 1908.
With a library stamp for 'Govan Parish School Board' to the first leaf and final leaf. Former owner's pencil inscriptions to the margins of pages 10-11.
With the text printed in two columns.Publisher's adverts to the reverse of the title page and contents page, and four leaves of publisher's adverts to the rear.
Condition
In the publisher's original wraps. Externally, chipped to the extremities. Small loss to the bottom of the spine. Former owner's pencil inscriptions to the margins of pages 10-11. With a library stamp for 'Govan Parish School Board' to the first leaf and final leaf. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned due to the paper type. Chipping to the first and last few pages at the margins.
