Description

Folding Plates, Illustrated

Colour illustrated fold out frontispiece of a panel representing Justice and Peace. Over fifty illustrated plates showing example of fine needlework. upholstery, beading and portraiture. The book explores embroidery from the thirteenth to the sixteenth century, following its ecclesiastical and stately uses, as well as symbolism and particular characteristics of work. Margaret Jourdain (1876–1951) was a prominent writer on Furniture and decoration.She has also published Old Lace: A Handbook for Collectors and Regency Furniture.

Condition

In a cloth binding. Externally, sound with tide marks to front board and sunning to spine. Bumping to head and tail of spine and rubbing to corners. Marks on rear board. Previous owner's bookplate on front free end-paper. Internally, binding generally firm and pages bright and clean.
