Description

Leather Binding, Prize Binding

Eighth reprint of the first Eversley series. Essay's include "The Literary influence of Academies", "Maurice de Guerin", "Pagand and Mediaeval Religious Sentiment" and "Spinoza and the Bible". Arnold was the Professor of Poetry at Oxford in 1857. He was the first to deliver his lectures in English rather than Latin.

Condition

Bound in a Hinckley Grammar School prize calf binding with gilt design to the spine. Externally, sound with light marks to the boards, and minor rubbing to the spine. Front hinge is very slightly strained but firm. Internally, firmly bound with bright pages, yet with occasional instances of light foxing. Prize bookplate to the front pastedown.
